The short version
- We do not collect, store, or share any personal information from you or your child.
- There are no accounts, ads, analytics, or tracking of any kind.
- Everything the app saves stays on your device.
This policy explains how the Word Sprouts app ("the app", "we", "us") handles information. Word Sprouts is a word search game made for children in Pre-K through 2nd grade, with a separate area for parents and caregivers.
Information we collect
None. The app does not collect, transmit, or share any personal information. It does not ask for a name, email address, age, photo, location, contacts, or any other personal details. We do not operate servers that receive data from the app.
The app does not include any third-party analytics, advertising, crash reporting, or social media tools. It does not use the advertising identifier (IDFA on iOS, Advertising ID on Android) and does not track users across other apps or websites.
Information stored on your device
To work properly, the app saves a small amount of information on your device only:
- Game progress, such as completed puzzles, stars earned, and the last level chosen for each grade.
- Settings, such as letter case, sounds, haptics, and whether words are spoken aloud.
- Custom puzzles that a parent creates in the puzzle maker, including any word list typed in or imported from a text file.
- Whether Full Access has been unlocked, so the app works offline.
This information is never sent to us or anyone else. You can erase it at any time by using Reset progress or deleting custom puzzles in the grown-up settings, or by uninstalling the app.
Spoken words
The app reads words aloud using your device's built-in text-to-speech voice. The app does not use the microphone and never records audio.
Importing word lists
In the parent-only puzzle maker, you can choose a .txt file with the system file picker. The app reads only the file you choose, only to build your puzzle, and keeps the resulting word list on your device.
In-app purchase
Word Sprouts offers one optional, one-time purchase ("Full Access"). Purchases and restores are handled entirely by Apple's App Store or Google Play. We do not receive or store your payment details, name, or account information. Apple and Google handle that information under their own privacy policies:
To confirm whether Full Access has been purchased, the app asks the store on your device. This connection to the store is the only network activity the app performs.
Children's privacy
Word Sprouts is designed for children and is built to comply with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), the GDPR, Apple's Kids Category guidelines, and Google Play's Families Policy. Because the app does not collect personal information from anyone, no personal information from children is collected, used, or disclosed.
Purchases, settings, the puzzle maker, and the link to this policy are protected by a parental gate (a math question) so children cannot reach them on their own.
Permissions
The app does not request access to your camera, microphone, photos, contacts, or location. On Android, it uses internet access only for Google Play purchases and vibration only for optional haptic feedback.
Your rights
Because we do not collect or hold any personal information, there is nothing for us to access, correct, or delete on your behalf. All app data is on your device and under your control, and you can remove it as described above.
Changes to this policy
If we change how the app handles information, we will update this page and the "Last updated" date above. If a future version ever needed to collect information, we would update this policy and obtain any required parental consent first.
